Saizen HGH Anti
Aging Treatment - Information
What
is Saizen®?
Saizen® is
a prescription drug for children whose growth
has slowed or stopped because their bodies do
not produce or release enough growth hormone.
Saizen® is commonly
called human growth hormone or somatropin. It
is manufactured to meet standards for quality
and purity.
Saizen® is provided as a
white powder in a stoppered glass vial. It is available in
an 8 mg cartridge. Your doctor will prescribe
the
appropriate dosage. The carton containing the Saizen® vial
also contains a vial of sterile diluent . The water is mixed
with the white powder to form a clear liquid solution. This
mixing process is called "reconstitution." Your doctor or
nurse will tell you how much water to mix with the Saizen® powder.
Saizen® is given just under
the skin with a needle-free delivery device (cool.click)
or a needle injection. Saizen® cannot
be given by mouth since stomach acids would destroy the hormone
before it could be absorbed into the body. Saizen® is
usually given daily at bedtime and is typically prescribed
for several years, until the patient reaches puberty. back

How
does Saizen® work?
Saizen® stimulates
growth of bones, cells, and organs. Clinical
studies have shown that it causes a decrease
in body fat and an increase in bone growth
and muscle mass. back

Who
should not take Saizen®?
Patients should
not take Saizen® if
they are hospitalized with a serious or critical
condition or require a respirator to breathe.
Patients having open heart surgery or major
surgery on the stomach, intestine or bowel
should not take Saizen®.
The bacteriostatic
water that comes with Saizen® contains
the preservative benzyl alcohol, which
should not be used in newborns or patients
with a known sensitivity to benzyl alcohol.
For these patients, Saizen® may
be reconstituted with Sterile Water for
Injection, USP. When it is reconstituted
in this manner, it must be used immediately
and any unused portion must be discarded.
Growth hormone may
trigger insulin resistance and should be
used with caution in patients who have
diabetes mellitus or a family history of
diabetes mellitus. Inform your doctor of
any diabetes in the patient's family.
Saizen® should
not be used in patients who have active
cancerous or benign tumors. Patients with
a history of cancer should be monitored
closely. back to top
How
should Saizen® be
taken?
Saizen® can
be taken with the cool.click™ needle-free
delivery device or with a needle and syringe.
The basic steps for preparing and using Saizen® are
outlined here. Your doctor, nurse, or other
healthcare provider will help you learn to
perform these steps. Follow their instructions
carefully.
- Wash your hands
before you begin.
- Mix (reconstitute)
one vial of Saizen® with
the amount of sterile diluent your doctor
has prescribed. Your doctor, nurse, or
other healthcare provider will explain
the mixing process in detail.
- After mixing,
gently swirl the mixture in the vial
until the powder is dissolved. Do
not shake. The
liquid should be clear. If it is cloudy,
prepare another vial.
- Withdraw the
prescribed amount of Saizen® using
the cool.click™ needle-free delivery
device or a needle and syringe.
- Choose a delivery
site and clean it with an alcohol wipe.
The best sites are those with a layer
of fat between the skin and muscle, like
the thigh, the back of the upper arm,
the abdomen and the rear end. Use a different
site every time, and do not deliver Saizen® to
an area of the body where the skin is
irritated, reddened, or bruised.
- Deliver Saizen® as
directed.
- Apply pressure
to the site using a gauze pad or cotton
ball.
- If you use needles,
dispose of them properly in a biohazardous
waste container. Do not reuse needles
or syringes. back

What issues do
I need to talk to my doctor about?
Talk to your
doctor if you have any concerns about treatment
or notice any changes in the patient's health,
including the following:
- Difficulty breathing
or the appearance of a skin rash or hives.
Call your doctor right away because this
could be an allergic reaction, which
is a potentially serious medical condition.
- Diagnosis of
any form of cancer.
- Excessive thirst,
increased urination, or dizziness. These
could be symptoms of overdose or glucose
intolerance.
- Unusual headaches,
problems with eyesight, nausea, or vomiting.
These have been observed in a small number
of patients and usually occurred within
the first eight weeks of therapy.
What are the possible
side effects of Saizen Anti Aging Treatment?
As with any
medicine, report any and all side effects,
symptoms, or physical changes to your doctor.
In clinical studies
in which Saizen® was
given to children with growth hormone deficiency,
the following reactions were infrequently
seen: pain, numbness, redness, or swelling
at the delivery site, hypothyroidism (low
thyroid hormone), hypoglycemia (low blood
sugar), seizures or convulsions, water
retention, and worsening of psoriasis symptoms
that existed before therapy began.
Any patient who
has a growth hormone deficiency and does
not respond to therapy should be tested
for thyroid problems or antibodies to human
growth hormone. Either of these conditions
can reduce the effectiveness of the drug.
Leukemia has been
reported in a small number of patients.
It is not clear whether this is the result
of the growth hormone deficiency itself,
growth hormone therapy, or other associated
treatments such as radiation therapy for
brain tumors. So far, data has failed to
confirm a relationship between growth hormone
therapy and leukemia.
When growth hormone
is given at the same site over a long period
of time, the tissue can become damaged.
This problem can be avoided by switching
among several different sites (such as
the thighs, rear end, abdomen, and backs
of the arms). back to top
How
do I store Saizen®?
Before you
mix them, vials of Saizen® powder
should be stored at room temperature between
59° and 86° F (15°-30° C).
Saizen® that
has been mixed with the sterile diluent
(Bacteriostatic Water for Injection, USP)
must be refrigerated (36°-46° F/2°-8° C)
and can be used for 14 days. Avoid freezing.
Do not use Saizen® after
the expiration date.
What should I do
if we miss a dose?
Call your
doctor or nurse immediately to report any missed
doses.
